CLAUSE OF NEW ACT

REVIEW EVERY HALF-YEAR

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day The Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, announced to-day that one of the features of the I.C.A. Act Amendment Bill would he a clause calling upon ihe Arbitration Court, within three months of the passing of the Act, to fix a basic wage for adult male and female workers in New Zealand. The rate would be based on the, existing economic conditions and the cost of living and would be aimed at providing, in the case of males, for a man, his wife and two children. Provision would also be made for the court to review the basic rate, at six-monthly intervals.

Mr. Armstrong stated that the new bill contains a- clause that, within threoi months of the passing of the bill, the Arbitration Court must declare a 40hour week for workers covered by existing awards.
