LONDON FRUIT MARKET APPLES IN GOOD DEMAND The .High Commissioner’s cable message front Loudon received by the Department of Agriculture on Monday reports on tlie fruit markets as follows; “Apples.—There is a good demand. Prices: Californian Newtown and Washington Jonathan, 8s to 10s; Oregon Newtown. 9s to 12s 6d; British Columbian Delicious, 9s to 10s.
“Pears.—The demand is poor and prices are lower as follow : Californian Winter Nelis, 8s to 13s; Washington Winter Nelis, £s 6d to 8s 3d; South African Beurre Bose, 8s to 8s 3d; South African Keilfer, 6s to 6s 6d.”
LONDON SALES
The London office of the Rank of New South Wales cables as follows:—“There is good competition at the London wool sales. Compared with the last sales’ close, Merino fine crossbred and slipes arc par to' 5 per cent dearer; medium and coarse crossbred, par. Average or estimated prices of New Zealand greasy fleece ordinary top-making wools are:— Merino, 60/64’s, 13d; fine halfbred. 56/58’s, 14id; halfbred, 50/56’s, 11-id; three-quarter-bred, 48/50’s, 9d; line crossbred, 46/48’s. 81 d ; medium crossbred, 44/46’s. BJ>d; crossbred, 40/44’s, Bid.” Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Company have received the following cable tnes sage from London : —“The London sales opened with a good tone, and competition keen, principally from home buyers. Crossbred greasy advanced a shade. Scorned and slipe advanced 5 per cent.” The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following cablegram from London dated March 10:—“There was a good attendance at (he opening of the sales to-day, competition by home and Continental buyers being fairly active, and prices, as compared with the close of the preceding seiaps. ruled about 5 per cent higher, with the exception of halfbred greasy, which was irregular and unchanged.”
The Bank of Australasia- is in receipt of the following cable message from London, dated March 10:—“At the London wool sales, merino was par to 5 per cent dearer; crossbred, all grades par to 5 per cent- clearer, and crossbred lamb, per cent dearer, compared with the dosing rates of last series.”
