MINER’S FAITH IN CLAIM

COMMENDED BY MINISTER

A mail who had demonstrated his faith in the possibilities of his gold claim ai Kavangahake by working and spending TICCO of his own money received the commendation of the Minister of Mines, the Hon. I\ G. Webb, at Paeroa. This was Mr. D. Leach, who has been de veloping the eastern region of Karungahake.

Mr. Leach started over three years ago and lias done 1000 ft. pf driving, as well as sinking winzes, lie has been trying to locate a reef formation which, he said, if found, would be sensational enough to put Karangahake on its feet. He asked the Government to assist in the exploration of a block which he had not been able to finance-. It would be necessary to do a further 4CQft. of driving and the cost would be about £4oo'. He would be prepared to pay the rents and find the explosives if the Government would pay the wages of two men. Mr. Webb said he was always pleased to meet a tryer and would assist if he could. It did not follow that all tryers were on the right track, but 400 ft. or less of driving might decide whether there was anything in the. claim. He would have the request, thoroughly investigated.
