FOX, GAUMONT-BRITTSH AND GAINSBOROUGH
During) 1935 Fox Film Corporation will release through the King's Theatre, Gisborne, a number of productions from tlio Fox studios in Hollywood, the Gaumontliritish studios, .Shepherd’s Bush, London, and the Gainsborough studios, Islington, London. Among them are : “Peek's Bad Boy,” based on the wellknown book ot that title, featuring Jackie Cooper. Thomas Meighan makes a return to the screen as the father of Peck’s bad boy.
“Gambling,’' produced by Harold B. Franklin, written by and featuring the producer, Mr. George M. Cohan. “The White .Parade,” featuring Loretta Young and John Boles. This story is based on tlio lives of student nurses.
Gloria Swanson will be seen once more aiid her singing voice heard in a musical picture entitled “Music in the Air. She,will be accompanied by John Boles. Shirley Temple, popular child star of “Baby, Take a Bow,” will be featured^ in a new picture entitled “Bright Eyes.” “One More Spring” will star Janet Gaynor and Warner Baxter. The only two pictures in which these two have previously appeared together were “Daddy Long Legs” and “Paddy the Next Best Thing.” The 1935 edition of “George White s Scandals” will he produced with much the same cast as was included in the 1934 subject. The Charlie Chan series of stories written by Earle Der Bigigers especially for the screen will bo continued; the next picture will be “Charlie Chan in Paris,” with Warner Oland as the Oriental detective.
George O’Brien will appear in a series of outdoor action pictures. Among the Gaumoul-British and Gainsborough productions which Fox Film Corporation anticipate releasing in New Zealand early in 1935 is “Jew Suss,” featuring Conrad Veidt. “Jew Suss” has been a much-discussed book and the strong dramatic quality of. the picture has been very efficiently taken care of.
“Evensong,’’ featuring Evelyn Lave, tells the story of an opera singer in Europe. Betty Balfour returns to the screen once more in a picture entitled “My Did Dutch.” This picture has been referred to as “the ‘Cavalcade’ of Cocknoydom.” Assisting Miss Balfour are Gordon Harbor, Michael Hogan and Finnic Ford. George Arliss has finished making “The Iron Duke.” During the year two other pictures will be made at GaumontBritish studios featuring George Arliss, bill- the titles of these are not yet. known, “My Heart is Calling" is file title of the second Jan Kiepura qmTunv and “Mary Queen of Scots” will feature Madeleine Carroll. “For Ever England" is a story which will include some remarkable shots of the British Navy. It is understood that the studio received the full co-operation of the navy in the production of this picture. Betty Balfour is the star. Itudvard Kipling’s famous book “Soldiers Three’’ will be produced as a picture, but no east has been allocated.
Jack Ilulbert will be seen in several productions, the first of which is “The Camels are Coming.” Tom Walls and Ralph Lynn will also
he seen in several productions, the ■ of which will be entitled “Dirty Work
Among the stars and featured players who will be seen in Oauinont-British and Gainsborough pictures are George Arliss, Jessie Matthews, Tom Walls, Betty Balfour, Gordon Harker, Evelyn Lave, Matlieson Lang, Jan Kiepura, Jack Hiilbert, Ralph Lynn, Conrad Veidt.
