THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL
LAST PUBLIC SPEECH
BEFORE ■ LEAVING N.Z.
(Per Press Association.!
AUCKLAND, this* day.
Special significance was given to the address of the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloc, when opening a new park and motor-racing track at- Onenunga.on Saturday, by reason of the fact that it was probably the last public occasiqn of .the kind at which he will speak before -ins departure from New Zea land.
“I had thought,” said His Excellency, “until I was pressed by your Mayor to take the place of His Royal Highness, the Duke of Gloucester, on this occasion, that my public speaking in the Dominion was at an end. It is undoubtedly a source of sorrow lo me that, except possibly for what are called valedictory gatherings at winch we have sadly to say ‘Good-bye’ this is, I believe, the last public function in which Her Excellency and I will take part.”
