For reasons of in-t errant ionul. prestige and increased rapidity within, her vast colonial empire, France is pushing ahead' Iter long-distance .airways as fast n.s possible. The three French trans-continental routes are: .(1) Paris, Saigon, Hanoi; (2) Paris, Casablanca, Natal (Brazil), Santiago: and (3) Paris, Algiers, Braztiville i(French Congo), Madagascar. Of these .only the first takes pns-, sengers and freight regularly throughout tho whole of its route. At present, tine Paris-Saigon trip takes seven days, 'but next year it is hoped that with tri-motor machines the •8000-mile journey will be accomplished in five days. The Paris-Santiago route (7500 smiles) is covered by air from Paris to •Casablanca, thence by special fast Haunch to Natal, where aeroplanes complete the journey to Santiago. Experimental flights with seaplanes ;ini(l aeroplanes are now being carried suit on this route, and Reuter was informed in Paris that it was hoped to inaugurate an “all-air’ ’ journey next • year. Experimental flights are also being carried out along the Paris-Mada-gascar route, with a view to bringing Madagascar closer than the eight days which are at present necessary for the 6350-milo trip.
