AUSTRALIAN AIR MAILS
LINK WITH ENGLAND MORE TENDERS ACCEPTED SYDNEY, April 20. Tenders have also been accepted for three other sectional air mail services which are being conducted in conjunction with the England-Darwin service. The estimated cost for five years of the oversea and eastern Australian division of the air mail will be £549,705, while the total cost, for which four contracts have been accepted—Singapore-Darwin-Brisbane, Charieville-Cootamuu-dra, Perth to Katherine, and Melbourne-Lauuceston-Hobart —will be £511,512. The Qantas Empire Airways Company was recently formed, being a combination of the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services, Limited, find Imperial Airways, Limited. The rate of payment under their-con-tract will be 3s Id a mile for the first year, decreasing to 2s £d in the fifth year. The tenders disclosed that Messrs. Ulm and Brearley jointly tendered for the Singapore-Darwin-Brisbane section, and Sir Charles Kingsford Smith and New England Airways jointly for the DarwinBrisbano se'ctioii. All were unsuccessful.
