SINGAPORE MURDER

CANTONESE ARRESTED SINGAPORE, April 7. An investigation in Chinatown led the police to the - naval base, where they arrested a Cantonese for the, murder ol Inspector Popejoy on March 9.

Since the date of the crime the police had been combing the Chinese quarter and searching, ships and warehouses for a Cantonese youth, who shot Police Inspector Popejoy, of Acton, London, in a local pawnshop. Inspector Popejoy visited the pawnshop to investigate pawn tickets found in the possession of a young Chinese woman. Suspicions were aroused by one of two Chinese, who was attempting to pawn a watch, which Inspector Popejoy suspected had been stolen. No sooner had Inspector Popejoy begun questioning the man than his companion fired from t-he doorway and shot him through tho heart.
