CLASS WARFARE

HOUSE OF LORDS DEBATE

LONDON, Alarch 1

In the House of Lords, Lord Kinnoull drew attention to the growth of Fascism. Ho said lie understood that the British Fascists had ordered 25 armored motor lorries, each carrying 2d persons, and lined with armor fill. thick. They were being financed by industrialists and bankers, some members of the House of Lords, and a certain foreign Power.

Lord Fisher declared that the hungermarchers and “Red Flaggers,” were on the same plane as Fascists, while >Sir Stafford Cripps, despite cautions by the Trades Union Council was continuing to teach that Labor must be revolutionary, it never seemed to occur to him that the ideas of class warfare and dictatorship could be copied by more powerful classes. If they appealed to force in Britain by Socialists, people would defend themselves as they did in the great strike. Lord Shell said he had belonged to the Labor movement since its birth. He had never heard force advocated. It Laborites indulged in one-tenth the things the Fascists with armored cars had done, they would have been put down by the Government. Lord Faversham, replying, said there was no such thing as a single united Fascist movement, but five separate organisations. The Daily Mail bad recently given Sir Oswald Mosley’s movement considerable publicity, and it was certainly receiving strong financial backing. The Home Office was giving attention to the matter, which need cause no undue apprehension. The debate then ended.
