WORKERS’ COMPENSATION

COMPLAINT TO MINISTER (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A request that the law relating to workers’ compensation should be amended to provide more protection for workers as regards the settlement of claims, was made to the Labor Minister, tlm Hon. A. Hamilton, by a deputation front a conference of the Now Zealand Workers’ Federation. It was alleged that workers wire being forced to accept lump payments m settlement of claims, which was against their interests. Complaint was also made as to the basis on which waterside workers were placed when computing the amount of relief to which they were entitled under the Unemployment Act, and it was suggested that the board and federation should confer and evolve a more equitable arrangement. The Minister gave tho deputation a sympathetic hearing, and undertook to investigate tho matters raised.
