SUPPLEMENTARY TREATY

BRITAIN AND ARGENTINE TARIFF CONCESSIONS (British Official Wireless.) Rec. 2 p.m. RUGBY, Sept. 27. The supplementary draft, agreement provided for in Article HI of the AngloArgentine commercial convention of May 1, 1933, was signed in Buenos Aires by tho Argentine Minister tif Foreign Affairs, Senov Salverda Lamas, and the British Ambassador, Sir Henry Chilton. The agreement declares that mutual tariff concessions are to he made by each country. Its veal effect is to stabilise Britain’s purchases from the Argentine, and increase the Argentine's purchases from Britain, thereby making somo contribution towards rectifying the trade balance, which is, of course, heavily in favor of the Argentine. Tho A agio-Argentine convention of May 1 recorded United Kingdom concessions in regard to Argentine beef, which is her chief export to Britain, and an Argentine, concession in the matter of exchange. The new supplementary agreement is concerned almost entirely with concessions made ,bv the Argentine on tariffs. Reductions of the present customs duties are accorded on many classes of goods which are of interest to United Kingdom trade with the republic.
