KEEN COMPETITION SIIEEP VALUES ADVANCE (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND,' last night. There was a sligtitly larger yarding of beef'at the Westfield, fat stock sale- yesterday. The offering included some first quality lines, and competition was keen throughout. The demand was chiefly for light-weight cattle. Extra choice ox sold to 10s per 100 lbs., choice and 14s to 17s; secondary aiul plain 12s to 13s; prune young,cow and heifer beef 15s to 17s; ordinary cow 10s to 13s. Extra heavy prime steers made to £7 15s to £8 2s 0d; heavy prime £7 to £7 12s Od; lighter prime £0 7s Gel. to £0 17. s 0d; light prime £5 ,10s to £0 2s 0d; small and unfinished £-1 to £4 17s . Od; extra heavy prime cows and' heifers £5 2s 0d to £5 10s; heavy prime £4 7s Od to £4 17s Od; lighter prime £3 15s to £4 ss; other billable cows £1 15s to £2 10s.
A smaller yarding of sheep sold freely under” steady competition. Wethers gained Is to 2s a head, ewes being firm at late rates. Prime wethers made 20s to 33s (id; unfinished Ids to -10 s 9d; prime maiden ewes 23s (id to 255; prime ewes 15s to 22s 9d; unfinished 7s 9d to 14s 9d. Higher prices ruled for hoggets, which wero in short supply. Prime hoggets made 16s 3d to 30s 3d; unfinished 12s to Ids. Spring lambs sold unchanged at 'l7s (id to 29s 3d. A short yarding of calves saw values rise in all sections. Runners made 50s to 88s; vealers 25s to 745. There was a brisk sale for pigs at advanced prices. Baconers made 43s to 695; porkers 20s to 425; and large stores 19s to 31s.
