AUSTRALIANS’ DOUBLES PARTvER BEATS McGRATII (Received Sept. 13, 3 p.m.) CHICAGO, Sep't. 12. In the doubles match to-day, Crawford and McGrath started impressively, quickly taking a 4—o lead in the first set. Parker and Shields then won five straight games, but the Australians managed to regain the advantage, winning two straight games. Then tho Americans broke McGrath’s service to even the set, won on Parker’s service, and clinched the set in tin' fourteenth game, breaking Crawford’s service.

In the second set, the Australians were able to handle their opponents’ smashing play, and long rallies repeatedly ended in American errors. A o—4 victorv evened the match.

In the third set, Crawford’s strokes began working to perfection, and the Australians repeated their (i—4 victory.

In tho fourth set, Crawford and McGrath Took tiie offensive, going to the net repeatedly and forcing Parker and Shields to resort to lobbing, which the Australians handled with powerful overhead smashes and took the final sot C—S.

In the singles, McGrath took a 3—ff lead in the first, set. Parker was aggressive, 'blit .erratic. He steadied to win the next three games. McGrath’s backhand was carrying little power. Parker ran out the set. after the games stood 4—4. After dropping the opening game iu the second set, Parker took full control, baffling the Australian with a steady barrage of forehand and backhand drives and slieeil shots, and drawing away to a 4—l lead. He was checked momentarily as McGrath won the next game, 'but came right back to run out the set and match.
