LARGEST TELESCOPE

BEING MADE IN ENGLAND NEWCASTLE (Eng.), Aug. 12. The hugest telescope ever made in Europe, and the second largest in the world, is taking shape at the Newcastle, works of Sir Howard Grubb, Parsons and Company, for delivery to Toronto University. The contract is worth £40,000 to £50,C00. It will contain a 76in. diameter mirror now being made, from special glass in New York. The mirror alone will weigh 2£ tons, and will bo Ift. thick. It will lie polished by Messrs. Grubb, Parsons for a whole year, experts working upon it until it is correct to the nearest one-five-hundred-thousnndtb of an inch. A 75-ton revolving steel dome to house the telescope is being manufactured at Middlesbrough. Meanwhile, Messrs.
