BETTING IN AUSTRALIA GAOL FOR OFFENDERS • (Received Sept. 12. 2 p.m.) ADELAIDE, Sept. 12. A report presented to the Government recommends the tightening up of betting laws, the licensing of bookmakers, and the creation of a board of five members to control the totalisator pool throughout the State. Betting in any place not specified for that purpose is to be punishable by imprisonment without the option of a fine. Landlords are to be held responsible for illegal betting, and gaming-house keepers will be placed under the rogue and vagabond clause of the Police Act.
