95 MEN EVICTED

INCIDENT IN MELBOURNE MILITARISED POLICE MELBOURNE, Aug. 8. Ninety-five single unemployed men who had taken ’ possession Of a terrace Of two-storeyed houses in East Melbourne were unceremoniously evicted today by the police, who were organised on military lines. A lively scrimmage ensued, but nobody was hurt. The, men’s , beds and cooking-utensil's were strewn on the footpaths. A large crowd looked on, but were kept at a safe distance by the police. The men had been in possession of the houses for over a year. They had removed the dividing fences and lived on community lines. They had paid no rent, but had made an honest- effort to keep the places clean.
