DR. GERALD SAMUELSON • ■ ■ ' v... FATAL FALL ON MAKURA SYDNEY, Aug. 8. . Dr, Gerald Samuelson, ship’s doctor on board the Makura, died yesterday from the effects of injuries he received last Wednesday when he slipped on the deck of -that-vessel and fell 20ft into a chain locker. Dr. Samuelson was strolling along the deck of the Makura as she lay ather berth in Darling harbor, and slipped on the wet deck. Ambulance men had a difficult .task to, bring Dr. Samuelson to the deck. The chain locker on tho vessel is a narrow confined space in which the anchor chain is stored. A stretcher was improvised from canvas, and the ship’s crew hoisted the doctor to the deck with the aid of tho steam hoist. Ho was doctor on the ill-fated Tahiti and was rescued before the 1 vessel sank. During the war he had charge of the hospital ship .Stadt Antwerpen, which was the King of Belgium’s yacht before the war. He practised in many parts of New South Wales after the war.
