ATHLETIC TEAMS VISIT TO TOLAGA BAY •Tluf weather. was all' that could die desired last Thursday when. Athletic A and B basketball teams journeyed by Whitfield’s service to Tolaga. Bay to play friendly games. The games took place oil the school court, and quite an enjoyable afternoon was spent. In the first game Athletic B defeated Tolaga Bay by 14-10. This' game was very even and was in doubt until the final few minutes. The Athletic shooting was very accurate, and the passing of Tolaga Bay was excellent considering they have only been in operation a week. Mr. Algie refereed. There was a great deal ot interest taken in the next game when Hauiti met Athletic A. This was very fast and ,exen,.. Athletic . having fo ..jump to gain the ball. In lhe_ first half flic players in the Hauiti goal third seemed to get too excited ’and did not take aim, but improved in the second half. Ihe team, on the whole, has .wonderful combination. Miss 15. Johnson, for Athletic, was shooting exceptionally well. The final score was in favor of. Athletic by 12 to 9. Mr. Kemp ably controlled the game. The Tokomaru-Tolaga game was rather one-sided. Tokornaru have a lot to learn in regard, to rules, but with practice should develop into a, strong team, i lie passing arid shooting of Tolaga was once again quite, good,' The final Score was in favor of Tolaga by 10 to 3. Mr. Kelly was the referee. In, the last match Athletic A defeated Tolaga Bay, 9-5. In this game Tolaga played even better than, in their previous games, their passing being quicker, ami with more practice, should be hard to heat. Atldctic’s passing was also quick and accurate, and Miss E. Johnson was again responsible for some good shooting. Mr. Kelly once again controlled the whistle.

The two Athletic teams were then the guests, of the Tolaga and Hauiti teams at the Parish Hall tor tea. during which the Hauiti girls entertained their visitors with action songs, hakas and solos in a very pleasing and popular manner. In the evening the visitors were further entertained at a most successful dance held in the Parish Hall. Once again the Hauiti. girls obliged wit.li songs and with some men performed another popular liaku. Misses O. McConnell (Gisborne) and Callahan also obliged:,with songs. During the supper interval Mr. -Kemp addressed the people and visitors, stating it was a red letter day for Tolaga Bay, and now that they knew such interest was taken by the Coast people in 'basketball, the game should, go ahead there. He then called for three cheers for the visiting teams. Miss M. Algie, oil behalf of the Athletic A and B teams, thanked all those who had helped to make the day such a success, for the hospitality shown since their arrival in Tolaga. and hoped the visit would help to foster the game in Tolaga Bay • also, 'they hoped that later in the season a team would journey down to meet them iii Gisborne. Mesdarnes Clioveaux, Tier and Beale accompanied the teams as chaperons.
