ANNUAL CONFERENCE ADDRESS BY PRESIDENT (Pox- Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Tho New Zealand Labor Party’s annual conference opened in Auckland to-day. Tho address to delegates by the president, Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P., who is in England, was read. Tie said the people had reason to he. thankful to the Creator for a bountiful supply of material things in tho past year, but in the matter of the distribution of those things there had neon disaster. Unemployment and , want had increased side by sido with increased production. People had been content to follow the track of the wheel which had led them to unsatisfactory positions,'and to be
satisfied with the platitude that by courage, patience, and hard work wo should overcome our difficulties. People had amply demonstrated their patience and courage, and proof of their hard work was manifest, yet the position was not improved
The National Executive reported that the organising activities throughout the year had exceeded all previous efforts, and Labor Parliamentarians bad placed the party well to the fore as the only possible alternative to the Coalition.
The names of the following members had been added to the list of approved candidates: D. G. McMillan, Kurow; P. C. Webb, Christchurch; W. H. Oliver, Feilding; W. Wakefield, Mangere; J. Mathison, Christchurch; W. Urey, Otahuhu; E. O Bond, Palmerston North; I). A. Hill, Kerepoehi.
The conference, of which Mr. P. Fraser is elected 'chairman, proceeded to discuss reports
