POVERTY BAY CLUB BROAD CUP FINAL The final of the Broad Cup handicap doubles conducted by the Poverty -Bay Rowing Club was rojved last evening. The race was rowed upstream, starting at the clubhouse arid finishing at Roebuck road, thus giving the crews the benefit of a strong in-rUnning tide. The contest developed into a stern iussle over the last qfiarter of a mile, the determined finishing efforts of both crews arousing the enthusiasm of the spectators who lined the bridge rail. The competing crews were F. Newman (str.) and Al. Doyle (6sec.), and It. Neilson (str.) and C. Brodie (18sec./-. Neilson got away rather slowly and did not gain the lead lie should have in file 12sce. conceded him. Newman gradually reduced the gap over tho early part of the course, and nearing 'Ballanco street footbridge the boats were almost on even terms. After passing under the footbridge both crews sprinted strongly, neither gaining any advantage for a short distance. Over the last few yards, however, Newman increased his efforts, and 'managed to pass the post a bare canvas in front.

GISBORNE CLUB MILLER FOURS CONCLUDED The final race in the Miller Fours series held by the Gisborne Rowing Club took place this morning and resulted in a win for Alexander (str.), McCallum, Slacle and Owen. The second semi-final was rowed last evening between Weatherly (str.), McLernon, Aitchison and Weir, and R-ait (str-), I-e Compte, Hay, and Shaw. Rait got away first, but Weatherly soon caught him and began to establish, a lead. This he maintained to the finish, where there was clear water between the boats.

In the final this morning Alexander, led from the start.
