MEETING AT WELLINGTON McVILLY SHIELD RETAINED At the Wellington provincial athletic championships at Wellington on Saturday, Wellington retained the AlcVUly Challenge Shield, according to the Dominion. This contradicts information received in Gisborne on Saturday night to the effect that the Hawke’s Bay-Pov-erty Bay sub-centre had been successful. Points for this trophy are allotted as lollow :—First, six points; second, three points; third, one point. The number of points secured by each team was ; Wellington, 67; Hawke's Bay, 57; College Old Boys, 19; Olympic, 15; Athletic, 10; University, 10; Lower Hutt, 9; Kiwi, 7; Miramar, 6; Petone, 1; Alotuek'a, 1, Probably trie best performers of the meeting, comments the Dominion, were Aliss N. Wilson, who won the ladies’ sprint events; L. Schneidemau, winner of the hop, step and jump, the distance being 45ft. 1-J,in.; J. M. \\ att, the winner of the 440yds.; and Ogg, the winner of the 880yds. The most noteworthy feature of the day was the form displayed by Aliss Wilson, the Dominion adds. This runner won every event in which she competed, and although she has been oil the track for some time, her form is considered to be as good as it was when she represented New Zealand at the Olympic Games in 1928. She was far superior to any of the other runners. Aliss Wilson will probably stay in Wellington until the New Zealand championships, in which she will cornpete in about three weeks’ time. bo far no announcement has been made as to who will be chosen to represent the province at the championships in the cycling events, but it is hoped that when the selection is ultimately made, T. Campbell’s name will be included in the list of representatives.

The team to represent Wellington at the,New Zealand athletic championships at Christchurch on March 10 is announced as follows; —P. Munro, shot, discus, and javelin throw; ’I. Driscoll, half-mile and mile walks; T. J. Crowe, broad and high jumps, and hop, step, and jump; C. H. Jenkins, 100yds, 220vds; L. Schneidemau, hop, step and junio and relay; W. Ogg, 440yds and 880yds; Aliss N. Wilson, women s events; J. M. Watt, 220yds and 440yds; R. McLeod, 120yds and 440yds hurdles; p. Sharpley, 120vds hurdles; J. AfeHolm, hammer throw; M. Cook, mile and three miles.

Two cyclists have yet to he chosen Air. A. C. Kitto will be manager.
