DETERMINED ROBBERS
ASSAULT ON PORTER SENSATION IN WELLINGTON (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON,, this day. 'The smashing of a window on the ground floor of the Working Men s Club in Mercer street, and cries lor help, at about 8 o’clock this morning attracted the attention of three passers-by, and a constable, who investigated found that .a. night portei named Madrigan had been assaulted by two masked men. Madrigan was entering' a side door at tlie foot of the stairway inside the main passage with a bucket ol water when he was suddenly attacked b.v the men, hit three times on the back ot the head, blind folded, tied by the arms and leg's, and drugged to the back of the building. 'Phe robbers forced a door lending oIV the bar.to the olliee. 'the sate did not. appear to have been interfered with, although the motive of the men undoubtedly was robbery. Madrigan is in hospital.
