LARGE NEW BRIDGE
MAY COST £1,000,000 lIAWKESBURY RIVER SCHEME The endeavors being made to have a large road bridge built over the Hhwkos-uui-y River, about 35 miles north of Sydney, were- mentioned at Auckland by Sir Hugh E. Roy liter, who was a through passenger to Vancouver on the Aorangi. Sir Hugh is the chairman of directors of Baldwins and the I.U.M. (Australia) Proprietary, Ltd. The visitor explained that at the present time there is only a railway bridge ii-ross the llawlceslniry River on the main road north of Sydney, and all road traffic, lias to be ferried over on c punt. 1 lie; cost of the proposed bridge would be about £1,000.000, and the pro posal is that it should be financed by toll fees imposed on users. An effort s being made to get Messrs Dorman. Long, the contractors for the Sydney harbor bridge, to undertake the work. File bridge would prove a great convenience to ail traffic on the main north road from Sydney. Sir Hugh, who is on his way to England, is a cousin of Mr. Rudyard Kipling and of Mr. Stanley Baldwin, liis father was Sir E. J. Poyntor, and he is i nephew of the late Sir Edward BurneJones.
