SYNAGOGUE IN SPAIN FIRST FOR OVER 400 YEARS MADRID, Dec. 27. The first legally recognised synagogue since the expulsion of the Jews Pi 1492 was opened with a congregation of 30 families. A police representative read out the protocol and provisional statutes to the congicga tion, which thereafter were signed. Scuor Bancr, whose personal intervention with King Alfonso secured the recognition of the Jewish community, presides at the synagogue. A section of the civil cemetery at Seville, despite church opposition, lias been reserved for Jewish burials.
