LOVER’S REVENGE
ACTRESS BURNED BED SOAKED WITH PETROL PARIS, Fell. 23. A terrible rovenge by a. rejected lover is reported from Tunis. A man burnt a distinguished native actress lo death after having soaked her bed with petrol. Ilabita Messika was considered one of the greatest artists that Tunisia had known. Her specialities were old Arab songs and Eastern dances. A great favorite with the native population, she went oil a European tour and returned to Tunis covered with glory.
Tile gifted performer had many admirers, and one whose suit was discouraged planned vengeance. Sho was aroused from sleep last- night by a strange noise, and made the terrible discovery that her bed was on fire., and thatstanding near it was Yaou Menioun. the dismissed suitor.
The singer shouted for help, and neighbors, policemen, arid firemen arrived; but Yaou Mcmoun had meanwhile disappeared. An investigation showed that petrol had been thrown on to the bed. The girl was frightfully burnt, and died this morning.
The rejected suitor was subsequently traced to his hotel. He had locked his door, and when it was broken open' tho policemen found that he had set fire to the. furniture and attempted l-o strangle himself with his turban. He is at death’s door in hospital.
