TWO WIVES DEAD

POISONING ALLEGED CHARGE AGAINST DOCTORS PARIS, Feb. 16. A sensation has been caused at Beziers, in the south of I ranee, by the arrest of Dr. Pierre Laget, a highly respected doctor and dentist, of the Legion of Honour, on a charge of poisoning his sister and his two wives. Dr. Laget’s first, wife died in 1922, and tho d(«jtor thereupon inherited an estate of £4OOO.

Dr. Laget later married her sister, Suzanne, who died last April, leaving insurance amounting to £11)00. that, it is alleged, he had placed on her hie a few months before. Tho doctor is also to be questioned about the death of his aunt, from whom he inherited £4OOO in l'J-o-’.

It is further alleged that_ hawing lom his money in tho stock markets and on a chicken farm, Di. i.aget- borrowed £730 from bis own sister, .Mile. Louise Laget, and when she tell ill last week sho "brought, a charge of poisoning against him and refused to eat any of the food lie gave her. A blood test made by local doctors is, said to have revealed poison, and tho public prosecutor had tho doctor arrested. Immediately afterwards Mine. Alexandre, mother of Dr. La get’s two wives, alleged that ho had poisoned her two daughters, and the public prosecutor directed that the bodies he exhumed for analysis.

High feeling is prevalent in Beziers, and Dr. Laget has to be hidden from angry crowds.
