Rain showers, snow, and sleet fell in some districts, but nevertheless the holiday traffic,was' heavy. Fourteen persons were killed and many injured in road accidents. Ships reported heavy weather. During a 50-mile-an-hour gale tins destroyed the west wing of Haddo House, Aberdeenshire. The Earl of Aberdeen helped to save the furniture and pictures, but many heirlooms were lost.
