BOXING

FRIDAY NIGHT'S FIGHT TROWERN MEETS MORGAN I Judging by hi s recent form, Morgan has improved greatly since his debut in the professional ring, and he is bound to prove a tough proposition for Reg L'rowern, the Auckland boxer against whom he will appear at Gisborne on Friday night. Tho pair have met on one previous occasion, when they fought a draw at Greymouth, and the Gisborne asociation feels that it was fortunate to secure the return light between them. The important feature of the match, as a drawing attraction, is that Morgan is on his way up the ladder of boxing lame, while 'J rowern has almost exhausted the possibilities of matches in New Zealand, and has had to go abroad to find opponents and purses commensurate with his ability. To Morgan, a victory over Trowerti will represent a decided advance for tho ex-amateur, while Trowern must regard the fight as a most serious one for himself, carrying the possibility of partial eclipse or continued prosperity in the ring fop him. A promise of additional interest in the fight is contained in a story that when Trowern and Morgan met at Greymouth the connections of the younger fighter felt that they had been overreached by Trowern's management in respect of some detail of the arrangements, and that the grievance still exists, having communicated itself to the respective boxers. Their forthcoming contest at Gisborne could hardly ho called a "needle" light. The bout is scheduled for 15 rounds. Some good amateur bouts have been arranged as preliminaries to the professional match. These minor contests have been specially selected, and should prove highly entertaining. A. Buckingham, of Te Karaka, is to meet a new local "star" in the heavyweight division, A. Steele, of Waipaoa; John McKay, of Gisborne, will meet R. Gregory. of Whntatutu, at lightweight limit; Isabeth, of! Gisborne, and Dixon of Tolaga Kay, have been matched in the same class; and Richardson and Waugh. two good local featherweights, are also to meet in a preliminary bout. Two additional attractions will be the meet ing of Allan and Jones, both of Wai paoa. in a bantamweight contest, and the Unit between J. McKay and Oil laghan, both of Gisborne, in the featherweight class.
