! PETROL TANK EXPLODES i FOUR OTHERS INJURED MELBOURNE, Dec. 17. j The explosion of a petrol tank at--1 t.'H'hcil to n house lighting system at . Poowong, near Korumburra, on Sunj'day evening', caused the death of a ! Womaii and the injury of four others. The tank was in a corner of the kitchen in which "were seated Mrs. J MeWli'iimoy, Mrs. Keynier, William ! Rpyniev, her husbaud, and Tasman | Reynier, their son. Air. Thomas McWhinney was in bed in an adjoining I room. The .four persons were caught ' by the flames, and all hut Mrs. Mc- ' W'hinney, To, rushed outside with their j clothes alight. Mr. Ive.ynjcr, seeing that his son was I in the worst plight, rolled him on the ground, and then plunged him into a Jiarrel of water. He then made a i (frantic effort to rescue Mrs. Mej Whiuuey, who was in the kitchen. The j Haines had spread to the house, and jhe Was prevented from entering. He then rescued Mr. McWhinney from bed. The house was quickly enveloped in fire, and it'was impossible ; to reach Mrs. McWhinney', who perished. Iler clytrreil remains were found later. ] The house, which was of six rooms, I was completely destroyed. Mr. Reynier had his hand severely hurt, and his son suffered severe burns on the ' hands and legs. Mrs. Keynier was bumf about the head and neck, 'and | Mr. McWhinney, who was unable to wail;, suffered shock and minor bums.
