QUENCHED BY RAIN ENORMOUS DAMAGE DONE (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) VANCOUVER, Sept. 18. Latest reports from Ventura and San Diego state that the tire areas to-night became widespread stretches of steam, after heavy rain had quenched the flames, which had done enormous damage. San Diego especially will suffer from devastated watersheds, and the city probably will remain without a proper supply until the trees grow again. Forest tires in Oregon and Washington State are increasing before the ho't driving winds. Several wide areas are now burning.
