MANDATED COUNTRIES
SOVEREIGNTY RULED OUT POSITION OE IRAQ (Australian Press-Assn. —United Service.) LONDON, September 13. At a meeting of the sixth committee at Geneva, Sir James Farr supported the chairman’s view that the expression ■‘sovereignty” as applied to the SouthWest African mandate shouldi he eliminated, adding that the expression was academic. He expressed the opinion that both “sovereignty” and “temporary” should be wiped out. The Italian delegate, Mr. Riddell (Canada), and Mr. Louw (South Africa) agreed, and the committee adopted the mandate’s report. The Daily Telegraph’s diplomatic correspondent hints that the Government will shortly agree to support Iraq’s application for admission to the League of Nations, of which the late Government did not approve. This will lead to an automatic lapse of the mandate, which conceivably will be followed by an Anglo-Iraq finance and defence agreement.
