A NATIONALIST SCHEME FURTHER RUPTURE REPORTED (Wireless Broadcast.) SHANGHAI, July 24. A Nationalist scheme to rule Manchuria has been rebuffed by General Chang. Deitails ai% lacking, but it is believed by Nanking officials that a sudden rupture has been occasioned as a result of advice given by the Tokio envoy. Five thousand troops posing as converted Nationalists seized one of the northern cities after a midnight battle, in which an American sailor was wounded. Thirty United States war vessels are guarding the harbor. —New York Times —SAC. THE NATIONALIST RULE OLD CUSTOMS ABOLISHED (Received July 25, noon.) SHANGHAI, July 24. Further evidence of the Nationalists’ determination to abolish traces of ami ent China is. contained in a message from Pekin, re-named Peiping, stating that all Mnnchu marriage rjjte.s, funeral ceremonies, and processions, which have been customary for centuries, must be abolished, the Government considering that, such do not conform to the Nationalist principles, which are revolutionary and based upon modern ideas. The situation is quiet. Several foreign warships have arrived, and are awaiting devopjments. Measure have been adopted for the protection of foreign life and property.
