15 LINERS A DAY

U.S. INVASION OF EUROPE. SOUTHAMPTON, May 4. There are indications that the American invasion of Europe, which commences in earnest during the second fortnight of the present month and continues until tho middle of July, will be heavier than in any year siuco the war, and in an effort to keep pace with the demands more ships are being placed in the passenger service. So far as East-bound traffic is concerned, nearly 20 companies will participate in carrying the thousands of Americans and Canadians across the Atlantic this summer. Altogether there will be 246 sailings of Last-bound liners from New York alone during May, June, and July, and the total number of sailings from North America to Europe dufing the annual rush period will bo 359. A feature of North Atlantic activity this year will be tho keener competition which is being displayed by the foreigner, particularly the. Germans, who with the Hamburg-Amerika Line and the North German Lloyd Line, practically back to their pro-war tonnage, will now constitute serious rivals to the British shipping companies. During tho height of the Transatlantic season, especially at weck-etids, there will be as many as 15 liners leaving the States and Canada for Europe in a single day. Predictions of an exceptionally big invasion of Europe from America this year are based on the fact that advanced bookings have been far heavier than for many years.
