EAST COAST RAILWAY
i TAURANGA-KAHKATI LINK. Apart from a short break at Wainui river and the deep swamp in tho same locality, the laying of rails on the Tau-ranga-Katikati section of the Ea*! Coast .Main Trunk line has been completed. 'lhe last. set. of rails bringing the line to Katikati station yards have now been laid. The Sir W. G. Armstrong, Whitworth Co., contractors for flu* works, have been, and still arc, meeting with a lot of trouble, particularly at the Wainui swamp and the Tahawai swamp, the latter about a, mile beyond Katikati station and on the Wailii side of the township. It therefore seems probable that the expectation that the section will be completed and available for traffic before the close of the year, will not be realised.
