BALLOONS IN A RACE

SYDNEY, June 2. The despatch, on Hospital Day in Sydney recently, of 3000 colored balloons in what was described as an aerial derby, had an interesting sequel. The winning balloon—the balloons were small things such as one buys in a shop—was recovered 174 miles from Sydney, and must have travelled'With' tho speed* of Pegasus almost, for if was picked up at 10 a.m. on the day following its release. The purchaser of that balloon, on producing the tag corresponding to its number, becomes entitled to a free tour to the Jenolan Caves. Most of the balloons were swept to sea. Appropriatelyenough, one landed in the yard of the tiydney Gas Co. Another was recovered in a cemetery. The balloons, as- they wero released throughout tho day and night from Martin Place, made a pretty spectacle.
