AVIATOR FIRED ON

INCIDENT AT RACES AN ARTIST ARRESTED (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn * (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association..' LONDON, April 15. A strange incident, oecured at Bournemouth flying races. A baby airplane, flown by the noted R.A.V. pilot. Squadron-Leader Longton, was (found, after a flight, to be riddled by shot. Longton is ,considered to have had the luckiest escape from the fate of Cobham’s mechanic, Elliott.

It appears that a section of the residents strongly protested against the flying meeting being held on Good Friday and it is believed some person armed with a sporting gun gave vent to his feelings in this unsportsmanlike manner. Bert Hinkler immediately flew in search of the offender, but found no trace. Trolawncy Reed, artist and farmer, was subsequently arrested and formally charged at Wimborno with shooting at Sqadron-Lcader Longton. Ho Was remanded.
