JAPAN'S MEAT IMPORTS

NEW REGULATIONS. VANCOUVER, March 18. New regulations governing the importation of edible meats into Japan have been issued by the Japanese Government and will go into force on May J. ' Translation of the orders by the Japanese consulate in Vancouver is as follows: “Throughout these regulations the word “meat’' shall mean mutton, beef, porlr, goat and horse flesh when imported for sale as food. “These meats shall carry a certificate,’ issued by the Federal or provincial authorities in the country of export, showing that they passed inspection at tboAime of slaughter; they must also bear a legible stamp on their surface indicating the kind of meat and date of slaughter; they must, furthermore,. pass inspection by the local governor in whose jurisdiction the port of arrival is situated. Meats arriving without these guarantees shall be refused admittance.’’
