FRUITGROWING AREA

GISBORNE NOW GAZETTED Following on applications made on a number of occasions by the Farmers' Union and the Fruitgrowers' Association, the Government has gazetted a portion of the Gisborno district aa a commercial fruitgrowing area- This will give a greater measure of control, especially if fireblight becomes prevalent. The area gazetted includes -the majority of the commercial orchards in the district, and runs roughly from Wainui to O.rmond, across to Patutahi and out past Manutuke to the sea. Apart from the actual benefits d'erived through the greater measure of control given to an area so gazetted, it shows that Poverty Bay is now recognised as a fruitgrowing district, and one where during the epming years developmentis likely to take place". Growers have long wanted their district gazetted, and they will welcome the- news that thenrequests have been granted.
