HOW IT WAS PUBLISHED

Hesketii Pearson, charged with false pretences, was remanded for a week. The publishers' counsel pointed out that Pearson approached Mr. John Dunbar, of Oldham’s Press, with whom he was acquainted, and suggested the publication of “Whispering Gallery” as .a serial in newspapers. Mr. Dunbar sanl it was useless without the name.
Subsequently, as a result of pressure, Pearson gave' the name of Sir Rennell Rodd as the author. Mr. Dunbar then (submitted Hie manuscript, to Lauo’s, giving Pearson’s name. Mr. Dunbar’s name standing high in the publishing world, Lanes’ proceeded with tho publication.
When the newspaper attack started, Mr. Dunbar interviewed Pearson. Tho latter said: “I am sorry 1 have caused this trouble.” Mr. ‘Dunbar asked: “Did you tell me a lie?” “Pearson replied: “Unfortunately 1 did. 1 have already apologised to Sir Rennell Rodd for it.”
