“NO OVERTIME” STRIKE
VESSELS LAID UP PRESSURE ON WATERSIDERS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Puces Assn.) (Received November 27, 1 p.m.) MELBOURNE, November 27. Owing to the “no-overtime” strike the laying up of vessels has commenced. Many seamen will be affected unless n. settlement is soon reached.
It is understood that, pressure is being brought to bear on the waterside workers by other unions with the object of bringing about, normal working conditions. The watersiders are being urged to revert to constitutional measures and to accept the offers of Judge Beeby.
REFUSAL TO SUPPLY STEAM
SYDNEY, November 27. Several tons of cargo for Auckland were unable to be loaded on to the Ulimaroa by 5 o’clock and had to be left behind. Seamen on a coastal vessel refused to supply steam in a case where the owners attempted to use volunteer labor after the watersiders knocked off.
