TROUBLE AT SOCCER MATCH.
-REFEREE JOSTLED AND STRUCK. PLAYER SUSPENDED AND CLUB WARNED. DUNEDIN, Monday. The Soccer match on Saturday between Otago High School Old Boys and Maori Hill took a serious turn. Shortly before the close of the game the Maori Hill goalie was laid out m stopping a shot at goal, receiving a severe injury to his nose, necessitating his retirement from the game. Another player went into goal, but this fact was not notified to ihe referee, and when the player handled the ball for clearance he was penalised. This led to a demonstration bv the spectators and also by some of the Maori Hill players. The referee was struck, but he 'could not say whether by a spectator or a player, but he was c-er.-itainlv jostled by a player. The ■ referee, blew his whistle and ordered the plaver off. but Ihe latter refused to obey. The Maori Hill team rhen commenced to leave ihe ground, and the referee blew his whistle, calling the game .olf. The matter came up for discussion at to-niglit’s meeting of the Otago Football Association, when Martin, the player who jostled the referee, was suspended for the remainder of ihe season, and the Maori Hill Club was advised of the Association’s strong disapproval of the conduct of its players and spectators. The club is also to be notified that any repetition of such a happening will result in the clull’s disqualification. '
