POVERTY’ BAY EWES.
GOING FORWARD TO TIMARU.
AN INTERESTING SHIPMENT.
An interesting shipment of ewes will be made from Gisborne during the coming week-end, this being a boatload that has been purchased by Mr. L. \Y. Storey, the well-known Covriedale breeder of Tiniaru, for bis high country station at the back of Fairlie. • This is the first occasion on- which Mr. Storey has come direct to Gisborne for liis ewes, but provided they winter satisfactorily on the high country, he will be making regular visits, and takes at least one boatload each season.
The shipment, which is being made through Dalgety and Co., consists of 2100 breeding ewes, from 2-th to 5-year-old, the majority of which are not in lamb. It is Mr. Storey’s intention to put the ewes out with Corriedale rams, and, although it is late in the season to do this; the fact that some of the country is snow-bound during the winter months makes it necessary to pla-ce the rams out late in the season. The sheep will be shipped to Lyttelton, and from there will be railed to Fairlie. and then taken to the high country station. Mr. Sforey, who is one of the leading breeders' of Corriedale sheep, and who; recently exhibited stock at the Royal Show in Sydney, believes that the Poverty 15 ay ewes will be found very suitable for crossing, and if such .proves to be the case yet- another outlet will be provided for our stock.
