THE BEEF INDUSTRY.
POSITION IN AUCKLAND
POSSIBILITY. -OF EXPORT
(Special to the Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day
An expert, in reviewing the meat season, stated that beef grazing in Auckland bad diminished to almost the extinguishing point, although in North Auckland would be found' a cohsiderble number of cuttle during the winter that were not of prime* quality.' Apparently the market would have to depend on this source of supply* to, a certain extent. In the. evqnt of the overseas market for frozen beef recovering, it would take several years for New Zealand graziers to meet'it with supplies of any magnitude. There were still possibilities ahead in regard to chilled meat export from the Dominion, notwithstanding the failure of a recent experiment. Australia was beginning to exploit the chiliad meat- industry, and what was possible to the Commonwealth in that respect should not be beyond the resources of the Dominion. “Everything is possible in the inarch of progress.” said the expert, “and New Zealand’s possibilities in supplying the markets of Britain with beef may not yet be ended, nor even modified.”
