SAFEGUARDING OF INDUSTRIES. (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.i (Reuter’s Telegram.) (Received February 17, 1 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 16. In the House of Commons, in reply to Mr Wedgewood-Benn in regard to the Safeguarding of Industries, Sir Burton Chadwick pointed out that- the duty to be recommended to Parliament, in any .particular case would be determined after consideration of the report of the committee appointed -to consider the application. The intention was that, in accordance with the usual practice, any duties should lie imposed cm imports from all sources, subject to a. preferential rebate upon imports of Empire products. Mr Wedgewood-Benn asked whether the Premier would consider it part of his Imperial preference policy to impose new duties on Empire commodities.

Mr Baldwin said there would be an opportunity to debate that.
