LORD JELLICOE EXPLAINS. UNCORREGTED ERRORS. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. In connection with telegrams from London, published this week, Viscount Jellicoe was asked to state the circtun stances which led to the Admiralty an count of the Battle of Jutland being referred to him for romnienl. Lord Jellicoe replied he had no oh jet* tion. as the main facts were already known from statements made in the British Parliament. These facts sum marised were as follows : —The Admiralty Board' in 1919 appointed a committee of officers, presided over hv Captain Harper, to prepare an account of the Jutland battle. Lord Jellicoe. in 1920. was in formed that the naval staff proposed tr make some alterations in the repo ft, and ho was asked to read it. He demurred considering that the report- should' hr published without amendment, but even totally he perused the report and objector to many of the proposed amendments After coming to New Zealand, Lord Jelli coe learned that the Admiralty bad decided not to publish Captain Harper’s re port, and the report now published war drawn up by the Admiralty’s naval staff This report was twice sent to Lord Jelli coe for bis comments. On the first occasion lie pointed out numerous inac curacies and misstatements. The re port was then returned for further com ment by cable. Lord Jellicoe found it impossible to correct errors fullv by cable i and asked for delay to reply by mail. This suggestion was not adopted, and publication has now been made, together with the Admiralty’s remarks, which latter have not yet been communicated t< Lord Jellicoe.
