RABBIT BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. . The monthly meeting of the East Coast Rabbit Board was held this morning, Mr. E. M. Hutchinson presiding. There were also present: Messrs M. T. Trafford, A. J. Cameron, B. Williams, D. Ross, and Inspector A. McGill, Leavue of absence was granted to Mr. T. Holden. Inspector A. McGill reported having in speeded the following lands on the Wui roa side : Mokalia native block, Pulere, Eihanui, Waireka, Wailii. Parktiust, Oiui ka and country around Waikaremoana, these blocks had been found in good order, although there were traces of rabbits on the Moliaka native block. Waireka and Mr. Thomas' property at Waikaremoana. Inspector Dawson had inspected the country up the Ruakituri Valley, Spence’s, Morris,’ Nolan’s and on to Paptiui. bill could not- find any traces of rabbits. Inspector Burgess had reported having gone over a large portion of his district, Ruatoki, Te Teko, Waioliatt, Kopuriki, Te Houhi, Galatea station, Whirinaki No. 4. and had found the country very dean. lie came across traces of rabbits on the sandhills between the Whakatane and Rungitaiki rivers and was giving the matter attention. A rabbitor had been stationed between the Waimana and Whakatane rivers for a month, hut be had not found any traces. The number of kills was as follows: —Wairoa district, Mohaku 7, Waireka 10, Meremere 4, Tutaekuri 1. total 22. Galatea district, Galatea 5, Waiohau 7, Wliaiti 1, Te Teko 2, total -37. In reply to The chairman, Inspector McGill said he was satisfied with the position on the Mohaka side. ?Jost of the rabbits caught- there were young ones out of burrows. None had been found in tho Ruakituri, and 1 the Galatea was very clean. Members expressed satisfaction with the report. Accounts totalling £589 Is 3d were passed for payment. •The secretary reported that rates outstanding amounted' to £I2OO. Payments were coming in very slowly, and he suggested advertising a penalty for stockholders who failed to make returns. Gattle owners were the principal defaulters. Air. Cameron called attention to the fact that farmers who did not carry stock paid no rates. The said it was a Stockowners’ Boat’d, whose‘rating power was restricted to stock. It was decided to advertise flint stockowners' who failed to make returns before. the end of the month would be proceeded against.
