“MONEY OR YOUR LIFE.”
ROBBER WITH POCKET KNIFE
A highwayman was recently reported to have made his appearance, at Mount Gambiei*, South Australia. He was armed with a pen-knife and so far appears to have had little success in his venture.
Unlike the. famous Tantanoola tiger which terrorised the district years ago the highwayman has been seen by residents, three of whom had been held up with a demand : “Your money or your life.” In each case the people “stuck up” decided to fight. The man made his latest venture recently when he sprang from the shelter of some pine trees and held up Mr. J. Schonfeldt, a young laborer. A fight ensued and the highwaymen knocked Schonfeldt down and attempted to drag him into the shadow of the pine. Fortunately! a passer-by heard the injured man’s cries for assistance, and came to his aid. The highwaymen promptly made off, but before departing he turned and viciously slashed the newcomer with a pocket-knife, severely injuring the back of his hand.
