Both adopted safety tactics in the opening stage, and afterwards played freely. Smith took the lead, being 400 ahead on the second day. Newman scored 1747 on the third day, against Smith’s 710. Newman increased his lead to 900, which Smith, on the fifth day, substantially reduced. The scores arc: Newman (>•172, Smith. (JUS. Breaks were: Newman 450, 270, 270, 233,,218, 220 twice; Smith, 225, 210, 302 (unfinished).
Falkiner is 0(5(57, including a break of 394, and MeConuchy, 5970, including a break of 93. Later. —Falkiner has scored 8001. including breaks of 313, 299, 183. and 3.31. Mc.Coi)achy’s score is (5490, including breaks of 140 and 130. Smith is 7950, including breaks of 453 and 357; Newman 7025, including y. break of 319.
