CRICKET.
The special committee set up by the Poverty Bay Cricket Association m respect to the completing ' c<f the new grounds m«t yesterday afternoon, when the Mayor (Mr W. G. Sherratt) presided. The question of raising funds was discussed. The secretary was instructed to write to the Hockey Association to ascertain if that bedy was willing to assist m the canvass. It was decided' to dose with the contractor for the levelling of the new grounds this week. The following were appointed to deal with the distribution of the- subscription lists : Messrs H. Bright, G. Stock, and H. E. Maude. Mr H. E. Maude presided over a good attendance of members at the weekly meeting- of the Management Committee of the Cricket Association last night. Two letters were read from the Borough Ccuncil m connection with the Domain. The secretary was instructed to write> to the Council thanking them for the use of the Domain. It was decided to continue the competitions on Saturday, the 22nd inst., the draw being: — Kia Kaha v. High School (at High School). United v. Civil Service (Domain). The posi-tion-of the teams at the conclusion of the second round is as follows: — Kia Kaha, 5 points ; Hifih School, 1 ; United, nil ; Civil Service, 6. , ' i In connection with the return visit to the Coast of the representative cricket team the following players left town by car this afternoon for Tolaga Bay : — W. T. Drake, R. Gartshore, W. Atkinson, C. Temperton. E. Fox, A. Gelhor, R. E. Barton, T. Pere, A. Murray, M. Maude, C. Fraser, and H. E. Eton. Two matches will be played at Tolaga Bay, and one at Tokomaru Bay, the men returning on Saturday night to Gisborne. The final positions of the teams m the school competition just closed are : Mangapapa 26 ponts, Te Hapara 22 points, Gisborne 6pts., Convent spts., High School primary 3 points. The 1919 competition will be commenced 1 m a few days. As most of the school cricket teams find much difficulty m. providing themselves with playing material, any donation of material or money will be thankfully received by the secretary of the school Sports Committee, Mangapapa School. The School Sports Com-mittee-desires to thank the "Cricket Association for the use of the matting, and for marking out the ground for Saturday's match.
