WAERENGA-O-KURI - HANGAROA SPORTS.
SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. Splendid weather favored the Wae-renga-o-kuri-Hangaroa eports, which were held at the store paddock at Waerenga-o-kuri on Saturday afternoon. It is intended to make the gathering once more aji annual fixture, and judging by the success of Saturday's function this should be assured. There were a number of visitors from town, and aai enjoyable day'e outing was spent. Some interesting contests were witnessed, the competitors comprising several Gisbornites, including Mr Ted Williams, who carried off several events. Invaluable assistance was rendered by Messrs. H. D. de Lautour, C. A. Fenwick, and Bert Davy, especially m connection with the running off of the events, whilst a marquee was loaned by Messrs Hansen and Whitbread. Music was provided by a band from town, and much enlivened the proceedings. A large amount of .work fell upon the energetic secretary, Mr J. B. iErskine, who was assisted by the members of the committee. Refreshments were provided by a caterer from town. A dance was held m Mr H. de Lautour's woolshed m the evening, the visitors being welcomed by Mr and Mrs die Lautour. There was a large attendance. Music was supplied by three of the bandsmen, Mr H. Harris oficiatillg as M.C. The building was decorated with greenery for the occasion, a.nd> th-e function passed off successfully, dancing being indulged m till a late hour. Owing to the number of entries that came forward m some of the events, it was found impossible to complete the whole programme.
